Deb Essen regaled us with stories from her Tour in Venice at the velvet-weaving atelier of Luigi Bevilacqua on the Grand Canal in Venice. The workshop has been in existence since medieval times and much of the equipment dates back centuries. The looms are mechanical dobby looms that use centuries-old and modern cards control the weaving patterns. The photographs in Deb’s slide show were taken by Marty Essen.
