Barbara N – Sapphire and Gold rag rugFiona C – In her words, “As part of the Strong Beginnings study group I learned about Summer and Winter from Jennifer Johnson. I found a profile draft on Petra Marciniak’s website that I liked and wanted to weave as Summer and Winter. The number of shapes across each section was 15 so I planned to weave 5 sections to give me the magic 75 needed for the anniversary challenge. To make it my own and not a copy of Petra’s, I changed how the shapes looked but kept to 15 across and 5 sections. One of the Complex Weavers seminars I watched was called “Polychrome Summer and Winter” presented by Lynn Smetko. One of the options was for ‘not on opposites’. Here two pattern wefts are used and you can see the background (here in tan-yellow) too. I was inspired by Lynn’s seminar and developed my draft to have two pattern wefts one in pink and the other in purple. I used different shades in the sections. I wove it on my 8 shaft table loom and as I’d played with the original draft I would have needed over 400 treadles on a floor loom! No problem for a table loom.”
“Thank you Jennifer for your Summer and Winter teachings.”
