Welcome to our web site! Please explore the pages of information and enjoy the photographs of members and their beautiful handwovens. We hope you will be inspired to weave, and even consider becoming a member of our guild.
The Illinois Prairie Weavers Guild is an association of weavers and textile artists who teach, encourage and inspire each other, sharing their experience, knowledge and resources. We began as Joliet Weavers Guild in January 1949, and, as we grew and changed locations, we renamed ourselves the Illinois Prairie Weavers in 1994. Our guild is a very active one, with a large library and an assortment of looms and equipment available by loan to members. We meet monthly, September through June, and our meetings are open to anyone with an interest in weaving.
Our guild membership includes highly accomplished weavers who own weaving businesses, teach weaving or have been published or honored by the greater weaving community. We also bring in nationally known speakers for programs and workshops. If you are a beginning or novice weaver, we welcome you to come to learn and be inspired. Our members weave on a variety of loom types, from 32 harnesses to finger weaving and everything in between. So, no matter what your skill level, we invite you to join us at one of our meetings and be welcomed into our weaving community.
